This is a little on the advanced side of the DIY scope, but why not convert an electric water tank into an outdoor wood heater? You have to come across an old water heater or save one that you’re planning on replacing. But I’m sure you can find one on craigslist somewhere near where you live. Otherwise the owner will have to pay a junk removal company to dispose of it, so you would actually be doing them a favor by taking it off of their hands. But all in all, this is a really cool project and a great example of re-purposing something destined for the scrap heap or some landfill and making it useful again in some other way.
